Homemade Hot Chocolate

  1. Place milk, cocoa powder, and sugar in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium/medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until warm (but not boiling).
  3. Add chocolate chips and whisk constantly until the chocolate chips melt and distribute evenly into the milk.
  4. Whisk in vanilla extract, serve immediately.
  5. Optional: top with whipped cream and your favorite toppings such as chocolate shavings or cinnamon.

For homemade whipped cream:

  1. Add the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla to a glass or metal bowl.
  2. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip the cream on high until soft or stiff peaks form.
  3. Stop mixing occasionally to test the stiffness of the peaks, to avoid over whipping.
