STEM education plays a crucial role in preparing students for future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. 82% of Gen Z students have a strong interest in sustainable food and how their food is produced. To support educators in engaging students with hands-on, real-world application of these concepts, American’s dairy farmers have teamed up with American Farm Bureau’s Food and Agriculture Center for Science Education and Open Sci Ed. Together, they’re providing innovative STEM resources to connect concepts to real-world challenges, particularly in the field of dairy science and agriculture.

Designed by Educators, for Educators

These free STEM resources are designed to spark curiosity and encourage critical thinking as students conduct hands-on experiments, research, and investigations related to dairy in food science and sustainability. Whether you’re looking to explore the biological processes of dairy cows, the environmental impact of dairy farming, or the nutritional science behind dairy products, these tools will help enrich students’ STEM education. These resources can be easily integrated into both middle and high school science curriculums to highlight the vital role of dairy agriculture in our food system.

Why These Resources Matter

Incorporating STEM into the classroom through real-world applications helps students develop critical thinking skills and an understanding of how science and technology impact their daily lives. These new resources are particularly beneficial for educators looking to:

  • Make STEM learning more engaging and hands-on.
  • Show students the real-world impact of STEM careers in agriculture and food science.
  • Foster collaboration between schools, agricultural organizations, and STEM industries.
  • Equip students with problem-solving skills essential for future success.

Educators and organizations can explore these Next Generation Science resources including badged units of instruction, Transfer Tasks for testing student knowledge, and a Phenomena Bank to guide development of new instructional materials by visiting our Lessons & Activities page for more information.

Join Us in Bringing Dairy STEM Education to Life! We believe that STEM education should be dynamic, engaging, and relevant to students’ futures. By integrating dairy agriculture into STEM learning, we can inspire students to explore careers in food science, environmental sustainability, agricultural technology and more.

Let’s work together to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators through the lens of food and agriculture.
