Experience the picturesque landscapes of our region this summer and embark on an adventure to a New England dairy farm. We’ve compiled a list of dairy farms that are regularly open to the public during the summer months. Happy traveling!

Connecticut

Elm Farm – Woodstock, CT

Elm Farm’s Farm to Table Market offers glass-bottled milk, ice cream, a variety of meats, and other goods. Visit cows and farm animals while on site.

Fairholm Farm – Woodstock, CT

Enjoy a variety of local products from Fairholm Farm’s farm store including pork, beef, honey, maple syrup, cow’s milk soap, poultry, and more. Farm tours available by request. Contact the farm to schedule your tour.

Fish Family Farm Creamery & Dairy – Bolton, CT

Visitors can enjoy fresh milk, ice cream, and other delicious treats. The farm has car shows during the summer and fall with food trucks and music, all to raise money for Lymphoma research. You can also book a farm vacation at their 5-bedroom private guest house for a hands-on farm experience.

Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates – Goshen, CT

Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates brings you artisanal chocolates made in small batches with fresh milk, cream, and butter. You are able to visit the cows Thursday through Sunday 10am – 3pm.

Massachusetts

Appleton Farms – Ipswich, MA

Appleton Farms hosts events throughout the year and they are one of the nation’s oldest continuously operational farms. Check out some of the summer events they have planned including “Cow Connection” where you can meet and cuddle cows.

Barstow’s Longview Farm – Hadley, MA

Enjoy lunch, ice cream, and other local products at Barstow’s Dairy Store and Bakery. Farm tours available for groups, families, and individuals by appointment.

Flayvors of Cook Farm – Hadley, MA

Enjoy homemade ice cream, pet cows, and visit calves 7 days a week from 12pm – 8pm.

Great Brook Farm – Carlisle, MA

Visit the only state park in the U.S. that has a working dairy farm. Enjoy ice cream at their ice cream stand, see cows, goats, chickens, and other animals. Free Smart Barn Tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm.

Hornstra Farm – Norwell, MA

Visit Horsntra Farm for a variety of fresh dairy products such as flavored milk and homemade ice cream. You can visit daily with the cows and calves during your visit or book a group tour.

McCray’s Farm – South Hadley, MA

Visit McCray’s farm for homemade ice cream, delicious milk, mini golf, and a petting zoo.

Richardson’s Ice Cream – Middleton, MA

Enjoy a day of fun at this working dairy farm and ice cream stand. Their neighbors at Golf Country offer two mini golf courses, a driving range, and batting cages.

Whittier Farms – Sutton, MA

Whittier Farms welcomes the opportunity to educate and engage their local community. They have several events open to the public this summer including a charcuterie night, farm tours, and more.

New Hampshire

Contoocook Creamery – Contoocook, NH

Any day at Contoocook Creamery is a great family activity and learning experience. Take a stroll along the farm’s walking trails and visit the cows.

Sanctuary Dairy Farm – Sunapee, NH

Find farm fresh, homemade ice cream at the Sanctuary Dairy Farm scoop shop. In addition to the ice cream and scenic views, you’ll enjoy seeing farm animals up close. Sanctuary Dairy Farm also has farm stand open daily from 8am – 8pm with a variety of products based on the season.

Rhode Island

EMMA Acres – Exeter, RI

Find a selection of dairy products, local beef, pork, honey, and other delicious foods at the EMMA Acres farm store. Gardeners can also purchase rich bagged compost and cow manure. Follow them on Facebook to see when the farm is hosting special events.

Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery – North Smithfield, RI

Watch cows being milked daily from 3pm – 4:30pm at the farm. You can also take a free self-guided audio tour. Be sure to stop by the on-site bakery and scoop shop for pastries, cakes, pies, ice cream, and more.

Vermont

Billings Farm & Museum – Woodstock, VT

Billings Farm & Museum is a fully operational dairy farm and a museum of Vermont’s rural heritage located in Woodstock. They are open to the public daily and have several special events coming up this summer like “Farm to Ballet” and a National Ice Cream Day celebration.

Liberty Hill Farm & Inn – Rochester, VT

Visitors come from all over to experience the daily rhythm of farm life. When you stay at Liberty Hill Farm & Inn you enjoy home-cooked breakfast and dinners around the big farmhouse table. Want to milk a cow? You got it! The Kennett family allows guests to participate in farm chores and activities. If you’re only looking for a day visit, the farm offers a 2-hour day farm tour.

Lilac Ridge Farm – Brattleboro, VT

This 3rd generation organic dairy farm is home to a farm stand, a 4-bedroom 1830’s cape Airbnb, and a newly opened an ice cream stand. You’ll love the beautiful setting and meeting the cows.

Shelburne Farms – Shelburne, VT

From mid-May to mid-October, enjoy a day exploring Shelburne Farms. There’s something for everyone from walking trails, to meeting farm animals, to watching cheesemaking.

Stony Pond Farm – Fairfield, VT

This farm Airbnb experience offers extreme privacy and breathtaking views of Mt. Mansfield. During your stay you will enjoy watching the farm’s herd of organic Jersey cows grazing in lush green pastures.
