Heart Health: Yogurt

Studies have shown that a healthy dietary pattern including dairy foods has been associated with reduced risk of developing heart disease.

Yogurt offers many health benefits and comes in a variety of options, including traditional, Greek, and skyr. When it comes to yogurt and heart health, a prospective cohort study concluded that milk-based yogurt consumption reduced the risk of developing high blood pressure by 10 percent.

Another study found that eating fermented foods such as yogurt can help reduce the risk of stroke. Research has also linked yogurt consumption with a reduced risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Yogurt can help many Americans meet the national recommendation of consuming three daily servings of dairy. One serving of yogurt is 3/4 cup any variety of milk-based yogurt products, including traditional, Greek, and skyr.
