Optimizing Protein for Physical Performance

Presented by: Don Layman, PhD and Kelli Kidd, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN

Protein is the most controversial of all nutrients because it is the foundation of how and what you eat. Your food choices and functional health of your muscles are defined by the amount and types of protein that you consume. It is critical to understand how age, exercise, and your physical performance goals affect your protein needs and choices. This presentation will address protein needs and concepts about meal threshold, anabolic response range, and meal distribution of protein to optimize muscle health and performance. In addition, practical applications and challenges related to protein consumption for the athlete will be discussed.

At the end of the webinar, the participant will be able to:

  • Evaluate research findings for optimizing protein quality, quantity and distribution for muscle health
  • Define concepts of meal response range and meal distribution for teens and young and older adults
  • Identify common nutrition challenges faced by collegiate athletes and methods to address the challenges

Please note you will need to answer a few questions to view the webinar recording and to access your CPE.
